¶ Bidding Practice Tables
A Bidding Practice Table improves bidding with no card play. Robots sit East and West, the board ends the moment the auction is over, and the contract reached is scored automatically against the best possible result, the double-dummy (DD) score. A new board is then dealt straight away.

¶ Overview
Because there is no play, a student sees many more auctions in the same time, and gets instant feedback on each one. It is an ideal way to rehearse a bidding system until the responses become second nature.
¶ Why teachers use it
- Many more auctions per lesson, because the hand ends when the bidding does.
- Instant feedback: every auction is scored against the best possible double-dummy score.
- Set the opponents to pass throughout, so beginners practise uncontested auctions first.
¶ How to use it
¶ Step 1 — Choose Bidding Practice
From the left menu click Casual, then Start New Table, and choose the Bidding Practice tab. A line confirms “No card play, the bidding is scored by double dummy”. The robots are already seated East and West.
¶ Step 2 — Decide whether opponents pass
Use the Opponents must pass switch:
- On — East and West always pass, so the student bids without interference. Best for beginners learning a system.
- Off — the robots bid their hands, so the student practises competitive auctions.
The practising pair is North–South, against the East–West robots. Take the South seat yourself (or add a student), and fill North with a robot partner or a second student, so the student always has someone to bid with. Then click CREATE. The hand begins once all four seats are filled.
¶ Step 3 — Bid and get scored
Make your bids as usual. The moment the auction ends, a Double dummy result appears: it shows the contract you reached and its score, a table of how many tricks each side can make in every strain, and the par contract. Click Next for a new board. There is no card play to slow you down.
💡 Tip: For a class, pair this with Deal Source: prepare a set of hands on one theme (weak twos, slam tries) and drill just those auctions.
